Keene on AI

Real estate agents do not need to pay for AI tools to start. The free versions of Claude and ChatGPT handle emails, captions, and property descriptions well, and a paid plan makes sense once usage limits or missing features slow down work that earns you money.
Real estate agents do not need to pay for AI tools to start. The free versions of Claude and ChatGPT handle emails, captions, and property descriptions well, and a paid plan makes sense once you keep hitting usage limits or want a feature the free plan lacks.
I'm Polly Keene, founder of Keene on AI and an AI Trainer and Consultant for real estate agents and REALTORS. Before I taught AI, I spent seven years as a licensed REALTOR on a top producing San Antonio team.
Every AI company wants your monthly subscription, and it is easy to pay for tools you barely use. This guide shows you how to test the free versions first, what paid plans typically add, and a simple rule for when to upgrade. Plans and prices change often, so I leave out prices here and point you to each tool's pricing page.
No, not to begin. Free versions let you learn the skill that matters most, which is writing clear prompts and reviewing the drafts. That skill transfers to every tool and every plan. Paying before you have a habit usually means paying for features you do not use yet.
Free plans give you real, capable models with lower daily limits. On Claude, the free plan includes Haiku and Sonnet, which cover most agent writing. ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini also offer free versions. Free plans may limit how many messages you can send, how long conversations run, or which features you can use.
Most agents are still early, which is exactly what free plans are for. In NAR's 2026 REALTORS Technology Report, 31% of agents said they experiment with AI occasionally and 9% were curious but had not tried it, while 48% use it daily or weekly.
Paid plans generally add three things:
Upgrade when the limits cost you more than the plan would. If you hit a limit in the middle of real work several times a week, or you need a larger model for pricing strategy or complex analysis, a paid plan can pay for itself. If a paid plan saves you even a couple of hours a month, do the math for your own time.
Start your two week free test today, and keep the tally on a sticky note. To get better drafts from any plan, read how to write AI prompts for real estate, and see which Claude model to use once you upgrade. Not to start. Free versions handle emails, captions, and property descriptions, and they let you build the skill that matters most: writing clear prompts and reviewing drafts. Pay when usage limits or missing features slow down work that earns you money.
Yes for most agents. Free plans include capable models that write strong first drafts, and your edits add the detail that makes a listing feel real. Always check every fact before you publish.
Paid plans generally add higher usage limits, access to larger and more capable models, and extra features that differ by tool. For example, on Claude, paid plans add Opus and Fable. Features change over time, so read each plan's current description.
Upgrade when the limits cost you more than the plan would. If you hit a limit in the middle of real work several times a week, or you need a larger model for pricing strategy or complex analysis, a paid plan can pay for itself. Try one paid month, then cancel if you did not use it.
Keep client names, addresses, and financial details out of free tools, and follow your broker's AI policy. Paid and business plans often handle data differently, so read each plan's privacy settings before you paste private information. When in doubt, use placeholders.
Ask your broker. Many brokerages are writing AI policies, and a shared plan can standardize which tools and settings agents use. Get the policy in writing before you use client data.
Prices change often, so check each tool's pricing page for current numbers. The main paid plans for the major tools have tended to sit in a similar monthly range, so your usage matters more than the price. Do the math on your own time before you subscribe.
Pick one tool and use the free version for 15 minutes a day for two weeks on real tasks. Keep a tally of each time you hit a limit or wanted a feature you could not use. If the tally is high, try one paid month and decide from there.
